Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Crookes; Sir Joseph Fayrer; Lazarus Fletcher; Michael Foster; Edward Frankland; William Huggins; Alexander Blackie William Kennedy; Edwin Ray Lankester; Charles Lapworth; Major Percy Alexander MacMahon; John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh; Osbert Salvin; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; Admiral William James Lloyd Wharton; the President, Sir Joseph Lister, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
1. Deaths of Admiral Sir George Henry Richards, Sir Benjamin Ward Richardson and Dr. Benjamin Apthorp Gould.
2. Letter from the Keeper of the Queen's Privy Purse, noting the Queen's approval of the award of Royal Medals.
3. Thanks of the Royal Society to Caprain Field and the crew of H.M.S. Penguin and others for assistance given to the Expedition for boring a coral reef in the Pacific Ocean.
4. Letter from Lord Kelvin, regretting his inability to attend the Anniversary Meeting and Dinner.
5. Report of the Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts.
6. Vagueness of the resolution regarding the award of the Darwin Medal addressed by a new citation for Professor G. Battista, full text entered in the minutes.
7. Grant of £200 from the £500 Government Grant Reserve Fund assigned to the Tsetse Fly Committee.
8. Letter from Dr. Meyer Wildermann on his paper referred to the Sectional Committee on Physics and Chemistry.
9. Leave granted for re-publishing of papers and copying of illustrations.
