Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Grylls Adams; Thomas Clifford Allbutt; Robert Bellamy Clifton; William Turner Thiselton Dyer; James Alfred Ewing; Lazarus Fletcher; Michael Foster; Edward Frankland; William Holbrook Gaskell; William Huggins; Charles Lapworth; Major Percy Alexander MacMahon; Raphael Meldola; William Ramsay; Arthur William Rucker; the Treasurer, Sir John Evans; Thomas de Grey, Lord Walsingham; Walter Frank Raphael Weldon; Admiral William James Lloyd Wharton; the President, Lord Lister, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted: minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
1. Secretary to write again to the Admiralty on Dr. G. H. Fowler's request for assistance in exploring mid-water zones of low temperature off the Orkney Islands.
2. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to a congratulatory address to Dr. Anton Dohrn and to the Foreign Memberfship diploma of Professor J. Wislicenus.
3. Estimate from Messrs. W. Bishop & Company for bookcase construction and alteration.
4. Letter from Professor E. Suess of Vienna, inviting the Society to send representatives to a Conference of German Academies, Professors Armstrong and Schuster to attend.
5. Letter from Professor Meldola in reference to a proposed commemorative medal for Professor Sylvester, to be considered at a future Council.
6. Selection of candidates for Fellowship considered and adjourned.
7. Letters of thanks from Foreign Members tabled.
8. Arrears of Philosophical Transactions granted to Professor Bonney.
9. Foreign Secretary's letter of condolence to the relatives of Professor Weierstrass.
10. Report of the Kew Committee ordered to be printed in Proceedings.
11. Report of the Water Research Committee, summarising research reports presented by Professors Frankland and Marshall Ward and the continuation of the committee investigating related topics under the Gunning Fund.
12. Leave granted to M. Wildemann to copy his paper in the archives.
13. Billd for lighting, books and other expenses.
