Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas George Bonney; Captain Ettrick William Creak; James Dewar; Sir Michael Foster (Secretary); William Dobinson Halliburton; William Abbott Herdman; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor; Nevil Storey Maskelyne; Sir Andrew Noble; Edward Bagnell Poulton; Arthur William Rucker (Secretary); Arthur Schuster; Dukinfield Henry Scott; George Johnstone Stoney; Joseph John Thomson; the President, Lord Lister, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
2. Death of Lieutenant-General Charles Wright Younghusband.
3. List of President, Officers and Fellows to serve on Council from the next Anniversary Meeting, the list to be communicated to the Press.
4-7. Award of Royal Society medals: Lord Rayleigh (Copley Medal), George Francis Fitzgerald (Royal Medal), William Carmichael McIntosh (Royal Medal), Edward Schunk (Davy Medal).
8. Proposed amendments to Statutes and Sttanding Orders for the election of privileged Fellows, full text entered into the minutes. Action deferred until the December meeting.
9. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to the nomination of the Treasurer as liquidator of the Kew Observatory Committee.
10. Treasurer's report on the transfer of the Mackinnon Trust Fund to the Royal Society, a deed of release appproved, subject to a decision on certain securities.
11. Formal letter of appointment and terms of employment for the Director of the National Physical Laboratory, full text entered into the minutes.
12. Appointment of an Executive Committee for the proposed Antarctic Expedition, with full text of its terms of reference and powers entered into the minutes.
13. Application from the Royal Scottish Geographical Society to join the Joint Antarctice Committee, declined.
14. Junior Secretary reported of the outcome of the Wiesbaden meeting, to discuss a proposed Association of Academies.
15. Draft of Council's report to the Fellowship, approved with amendments.
16. £100 from the Government Grant reserve fund allocated for C.T.R. Wilson's researches.
17. £10 from the Publication Fund granted to Drs. Delroy and Malcolm for reproducing drawings for their paper in the Journal of Physiology.
18. Professor Rucker nominated as a delegate to the International Congress of Physics in Paris, 1900.
19. Dr. J. H. Gladstone nominated as the Society's representative on the Joint Scholarships Board.
20. Wedgwood medallion of Sir William Hooker donated by Joseph Dalton Hooker.
21. Replacement of bonds for the Gassiot Trust.
22. Letter from the Government of India on the Society's response to the request for advice on matters of scientific research in India.
23. Bills for printing and other expenses.
