Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; Charles Vernon Boys; Horace Tabberer Brown; Edwin Bailey Elliott; Sir Michael Foster (Secretary); Hans Friedrich Gadow; William Mitchinson Hicks; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Lord Lister; William Carmichael McIntosh; Ludwig Mond; Arnold William Reinold; James Emerson Reynolds; Arthur William Rucker (Secretary); Robert Henry Scott; Charles Scott Sherrington; Jethro Justinian Harris Teall; Thomas Edward Thorpe (Foreign Secretary); the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. New members of Council subscribed to the declaration in lieu of the oath
2. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
3. Letter from Sir J. Wolfe Barry stating that he would not be able to serve on Council, Joseph Wilson Swan to be nominated in his place.
4. Appointment of Vice-Presidents.
5. Professor Rucker appointed to the Council of the International Catalogue, with Armstrong, Foster and Mond as 'assessors'.
6. Robert Chalmers designated as Treasury representative on the Finance Committee of the Antarctic Expedition.
7. Letter from Clements R. Markham, Royal Geographical Society, 27 November 1900, to Lord Lister, full text entered into the minutes: on concerns over the ownership and insurance of the vessel Discovery. The Royal Geographical Society is willing to take ownership, which must be registered as soon as the ship is launched. With a draft reply from the Secretaries on resulting executive and financial arrangements for the Antarctic Expedition.
8. Admiral A. H. Markham appointed to the Executive Committee of the Joint Antarctic Committee in place of Sir R. V. Hamilton.
9. Officers ex-officio members of all Royal Society committees, with exceptions.
10. Powers of adding to committee numbers, and role of Chairmen.
11-29. Re-appointment of committees with lists of members: Library Committee; Soiree Committee; House Committee; Catalogue of Scientific Papers Committee; Challenger Committee; Scientific Relief Committee; Joint Permanent Eclipse Committee; Coral Reef Committee; Tsetse Fly Committee; Evolution Committee; Government Grant Review Committee; Observatories Committee; Malaria Committee; Finance Committee; Indian Government Advisory Committee; Joint Antarctic Committee; Astronomical Papers Committee; Geodetic Arc Committee; Hughes Bequest Committee.
30. Appointments to Sectional Committees in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Geology, Botany, Zoology and Physiology.
31. Appointments to Government Grant Boards A-G.
32. Revised Articles of Association from the Meteorological Council, including a temporary provision until Directors are appointed by the Royal Society, deferred.
33. Report of the Finance Committee, including on expenses of the International Catalogue.
34. £500 adavnce to the International Catalogue from the Society's General Account.
35. £400 expenditure on electric lighting for Burlington House to be charged to the General Account.
36. £50 from the Donation Fund awarded to Mr. A. W. Rowe to pubish a paper on English Chalk.
37. Letter from the Royal Geographical Society, noting the present condition of the memorial to James Cook at Venus Point, Tahiti. The Royal Society to defray half the expenses of restoring the memorial, in the manner proposed by the British Consul.
38. Letter from the Director of the National Physical Laboratory on the design of a seal incorporating part of the Society's arms: approval of the design to rest with the Officers.
39. Informal reception of Fellows to be held on 17 January 1901.
40. Increase in the wages of: W. Shepherd, office junior, Mr. F. A. Towle, assistant clerk to the Government Grant Committee, and a gratuity of £10 to G. Kennedy, the porter, on completing twenty-five years of service.
41. Letter of thanks from the Colonial Office for advice on the pearl fisheries of Ceylon.
42. Report of the British Academy Committee to be discussed at the Council of 17 January.
43. Leave granted to Norman Lockyer to copy data in Warren de la Rue's sunspot tables; and for others to copy illustrations.
44. Bills for printing, engraving and for other expenses.
