Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; Charles Vernon Boys; William Henry Mahoney Christie; Edwin Bailey Elliott; Sir Michael Foster (Secretary); Hans Friedrich Gadow; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); William Carmichael McIntosh; Ludwig Mond; Arnold William Reinold; James Emerson Reynolds; Arthur Rucker (Secretary); Robert Henry Scott; Charles Scott Sherrington; Joseph Wilson Swan; Jethro Justinian Harris Teall; Thomas Edward Thorpe (Foreign Secretary); the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
2. Report of the British Academy Committee discussed: motion by Professor Armstrong on the undesirability of creating a British Academy; amended by Professor Rucker, to state that the Royal Society sympthaised with the objectives of exact literray studies, but should not itself establish an Academy, passed without objection .
3. Candidates for Royal Society medals proposed and seconded; Professor Armstrong's motion on nominations not seconded.
4. Letter from the Royal Geographical Society, on a resolution regarding the appointment of Mr. George Murray as Director of Civilian Scientific staff to the National Antarctic Expedition: resolutions passed by the Joint Committee on Murray's conditions of employment. Letter from the Admiralty appointing officers from H.M.S. President to the Nationalk Antarctic Committee: Commander Robert F. Scott, Lieutenant Charles W. R. Royds, Lieutenant Michael Barnes and Engineer Reginald W. Skelton.
5. Report of the Mackinnon Studentship Committee, shortlisting four candidates for a studentship; the committee requests that Council grant them to powers to appoint a student, once further information is gathered. Approved by Council.
6. Report of the Catalogue of Scientific Papers Committee, on the termination of employment of Miss Chambers, with a long service gratuity of £100.
7. Letter from the First Lord of the Treasury, suggesting that the work of the Scientific Relief Fund be co-ordinated with the Civil List: the Officers and Chair of the Committee to communicate with Mr. Balfour on the subject.
8. Application for a grant of £300 from Sir John Murray on behalf of Dr. Louis Sambon to investigate beri-beri on Christmas Island; approved from the Reserve Fund, on condition that no objection came from the Physiology Committee or the Chair of the Government Grant Committee.
8A. Letter from the Assistant Secretary asking to be relieved from Clerl duties for the Government Grant Committee; agreed, and Mr. F. A. Towle appointed at a salary of £100.
9. Communication from Mr. Garstang of the Marine Biological Association, requesting Royal Society advice on international exploration of the sea; a committee formed for the purpose.
10. Letter from Professor Darboux, forwarding proceedings, and noting that the Royal Society woud become directing academy of the International Association of Academies from 1902; a committee formed to the purpose.
11. Letter from Professor Wislicenus drawing attention to resolutions on the observations of atmospheric electricity.
12. Communication from Professor Couturat on a universal language.
13. Resolution to send Royal Society representatives to the 80th birthday celebrations of Professor Rudolf Virchow in Berlin.
14. Treasurer's statement on the Publication Grant timings and notice that he would move to amend grant regulations at the next meeting.
15. Dr. Langley's resignation from the Sectional Committee for Physiology.
16. Treasurer empowered to borrow money fro the Society's bankers for the International Catalogue, until stock could be sold.
17. Extension for admission to the Fellowship granted to Captain H. B. Jackson, currently on foreign service.
18. Letter of thanks from Professor Mobius for appointing a delegate to the International Congress of Zoology.
19. Copy of the Royal Society report on Instructions for the Antarctic Expedition of 1840 to be presented to the National Antarctic Expedition.
20. Officers empowered to take actions during recess.
21. Treasurer authorised to pay bills during recess.
22. All books to be returned to the Library by 31 July.
23. Leave of absence granted to the Assistant Secretary.
24. Bills for insurance and engraving.
