Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; Charles Vernon Boys; Horace Tabberer Brown; William Henry Mahoney Christie; Edwin Bailey Elliott; Sir Michael Foster (Secretary); Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Lord Lister; William Carmichael McIntosh; Ludwig Mond; Arthur Rucker (Secretary); Robert Henry Scott; Joseph Wilson Swan; Thomas Edward Thorpe; the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
2. Death of Professor Alexsandr Kowalewski.
3. Case of a scientific man requiring assistance referrred to the Scientific Relief Committee.
4. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to the address to Professor Bertholet.
5. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts.
6. Letter from Mr. W. Carrruthers, posing a question he proposed to put to the President at the Anniversary Day meeting, on the re-election of one of the Secretaries; the issue being a memorial on the Natural History Department of the British Museum. Council, having heard the Senior Secretary's statement, re-affirms his nomination.
