Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; William Bateson; William Thomas Blanford; Frederick Orpen Bower; Charles Vernon Boys; William Burnside; William Watson Cheyne; George Carey Foster; Sir Michael Foster (Secretary); Sir John Eldon Gorst; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Henry Alexander Miers; Robert Henry Scott; Charles Scott Sherrington; Joseph Wilson Swan; Thomas Edward Thorpe (Foreign Secretary); Herbert Hall Turner; the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
2. Death of the Marquis of Dufferin and Aya.
3. Petition in favour of granting a charter to the British Academy approved and sealed, the Society's rooms to be offered to the Academy's promoters for temporary use.
4. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to a power of attorney for the sale of stock in advaance of the International Catalogue.
5. Seal of the Society affixed to a verification form from the Bank of England.
6. Oliver Lodge to be appointed to represent the Society on the governing body of Charterhouse School, following the resignation of G. H. Darwin.
7. Royal Society uanable to send representatives for the presentation of a medal to Albert Goudry, following a letter from M. Bouley.
8. Letter from the Mayor of Marnes-la-Coquette requesting a donation for a monument to Louis Pasteur, the reply that no funds were available.
9. Letter from the General Secretary of the International Medical Congress, inviting the Royal Society to send a delegate to Madrid: resolved not to attend.
10. Meetings of the Government Grant Committee and Boards to be held on 7 May.
11. Application from Dr. C. S. Myers for £20 from the Government Grant fund to conduct anthropometric investigations on Egyptian Army troops; and an application for £30 from Dr. Henry Woodward on behalf of Miss D. M. A. Bate to explore limestone caverns in Cyprus for fossils of mammals; both being deemed urgent, funds to be granted to Council by the Government Grant Committee.
12. Consideration of the candidature of Hertha Ayrton for Fellowship of the Royal Society: case for the opinion of counsel and the opinion of Mr. Danckwerts K.C. and Mr. R. J. Parker printed as full text in the minutes. 'We are of the opinion that married women are not eligible as Fellows of the Royal Society...the election of unmarried women appears to uus to be very doubtful'. Secretaries to inform Professor Perry that the certificate in favour of Mrs. Ayrton could not be registered or read.
13. Resolved, that a copy of the case with a covering letter should be sent to each Fellow.
14. Report on the admission of privileged candidates: various amendments put to the vote.
15. Letter from Professor Armstrong of the duties of Sectional Committees postponed until the next meeting.
16. Memorandum of the Senior Secretary oon the timing of elections, full text entered into the minutes, and consideration deferred until the next meeting.
17. Circular from the Nobel Committee, via the Foreign Office, on the distribution of the Nobel Peace Prize for 1902.
18. Salary of Miss Bremner, Chief of the cataloguing staff for the Catalogue of Scientific Papers, set at £125 per annum, with a prospect of increase.
19. Leave of six months granted to R. Chapman, Papers Clerk in the office, whose health had broken down: three months' salary and £45 to pay for as sea voyage to New Zealand to be made available.
20. Applications for support from the Publication Grant postponed until the next meeting.
21. Records of meetings to be printed on slips for insertion in Proceedings from next issue and reprinted together in the Yearbook.
22. Leave granted for reprinting of papers and illustrations.
23. Bills for house repairs, library books and Few & Company's legal fees (Counsel's opinion).
