Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; William Bateson; William Thomas Blanford; Frederick Orpen Bower; Charles Vernon Boys; William Burnside; William Watson Cheyne; George Carey Foster; Sir Michael Foster (Secretary); Sir John Eldon Gorst; William Mitchinson Hicks; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Henry Alexander Miers; James Emerson Reynolds; Robert Henry Scott; Charles Scott Sherrington; Joseph Wilson Swan; Thomas Edward Thorpe (Foreign Secretary); Herbert Hall Turner; the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
2. Deaths of Mr. G. F. Wilson and M. Alfred Cornu. Dr. Masters to be requested to write the obituary notice for Wilson, the Foreign Secretary to arrange for Cornu's obituary.
3. List of candidates for election to the Fellowship selected, to be recommended at the Annual Meeting for election on 5 June.
4. Application from the Evolution Committee for a grant to produce 500 copies of a coloured plate on progressive melanism in moths: £45 to be made available from the Donation Fund.
5. Senior Secretary's statement on the relationship between the International Association of Academies and the Marey Institute of Physiology, Paris. A £50 grant from the Donation Fund to be made to Professor Marey, on the understanding that this was from the Royal Society as a private organisation, unconnected with the Association of Academies.
6. Sir Andrew Noble appointed to serve on the Finance Committee, in place of Sir R. Giffen.
7. List of candidates for Foreign Membership: a shortlist developed from which seven candidates would be selected to be nominated by ballot at a subsequent Council.
8. Professor E. Ray Lankester to represent the Royal Society at the funeral of M. de Lacaze-Duthiers.
9. Report of the Scientific Relief Fund Committee, noting grants allocated to applicants.
10. Professor E. B. Elliott and Professor Forsyth to represent the Royal Society at the centenary commemoration of Niels Hendrik Abel.
11. Draft of a statute on the election of privileged candidates to be agreed upon and read at next Council, with repeal of parts of others, rearrangement of the order of the statutes, and other corrections.
12. Officers to confer with other Burlington House learned societies on decorating the building for the Coronation.
13. Letter from Professor Armstrong on the duties of sectional committees to be the first order of business at the next Council.
[14. not numbered]. Letter from the Mayor of Exeter asking the Royal Society to appoint delegates to the Annual Congress of the Institute of Public Health: no delegates to be appointed.
[15. not numbered]. Reappointment of the Earl of Rosse and Professor Macalister to the Government Grant Committee.
[16. not numbered]. Letter from the Foreign Office enclosing a letter of introduction for Dr. Gadow.

Letter from the Royal Geographical Society noting the objection of the Government of Tahiti to the erection of a memorial [to Captain James Cook] on French territory, the colonial government would do so at its own expense, the Royal Society to contribute one half of the cost of the brass plate.
