Commencing with a list of Council members present: Henry Edward Armstrong; William Bateson; William Thomas Blanford; Frederick Orpen Bower; Charles Vernon Boys; George Carey Foster; Sir Michael Foster (Secretary); William Mitchinson Hicks; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Henry Alexander Miers; Robert Henry Scott; Charles Scott Sherrington; Thomas Edward Thorpe (Foreign Secretary); Herbert Hall Turner; the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
2. Deaths of W. H. Barlow and Sir W. C. Roberts Austen. The Foreign Secretary asked to write the Obituary Notices of Roberts Austen, and of Dr. J. H. Gladstone.
3. Resumed discussion of the report of the Organization Committee: votes on amendments, notably that the Assistant Secretary should take minutes, except on occasions such as nominations of candidates to the Fellowship and to Council, and the award of Royal Society medals. Motion carried, and to be acted upon immediately, a paragraph to be added to Council's report to the Fellowship.
4. Discussion of the scheme of Professor Armstrong relating to Sectional Committees resumed: the memorandum referred to a committee formed for the purpose.
5. The question of sending a delegate to the centenary celebrations of Dorpat University left to the Officers.
6. Professor Perry nominated to serve on the Joint Scholarships Board in place of Dr. Gladstone.
7. Professor Sherrington nominated to serve on the Governing Body of Charterhouse School, in place of Oliver Lodge.
8. Professor Church re-elected to serve on Sir John Soane's Museum Trust.
9. Professor Armstrong re-appointed as nominated almoner of Christ's Hospital.
10. Horace Brown re-appointed to as representative on the Lawes Agricultural Trust.
11. Letter from London County Council relating to smoke consumption, reply drafted by the Junior Secretary to be sent, after votes on how to proceed.
12. Letter from the Keeper of the King's Privy Purse, conveying the King's approval of the award of Royal Medals.
13. Letters of thanks from Royal Society medallists tabled.
14. Treasurer noted several donations towards the cost of the Catalogue of Scientific Papers, a list of subscribers to be announced at a later date.
