Commencing with a list of Council members present: Thomas George Bonney; Captain Ettrick William Creak; Daniel John Cunningham; James Dewar; Michael Foster (Secretary);Sir Edward Frankland (Foreign Secretary); William Dobinson Halliburton; William Abbott Herdman; Victor Horsley; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Nevil Storey Maskelyne; Sir Andrew Noble; Edward Bagnell Poulton; Arthur William Rucker (Secretary); William James Russell; Arthur Schuster; George Johnstone Stoney; Joseph John Thomson; the President, Lord Lister, in the chair.

Among matters discussed or noted:
1. Minutes of the last meeting read and approved.
2. Letter from the Assistant Secretary of the Society of Antiquaries, suggesting joint action between the Societies on alterations to the Royal Academy building [Burlington House], agreed.
3. Professor Ewing to be invited to deliver the Bakerian Lecture on 'Experiments in micro-metallurgy'.
4. Discussion Meeting to be held on 'preventative inoculation'.
5. Candidates for Fellowship discussed and adjourned.
6. Report of the Kew Committee presented and ordered to be published in Proceedings.
7. Re-appointment of the Earl of Rosse and Professor A. Macalister to the Government Grant Committee.
8. Leave granted for the copying of papers and illustrations.
9. Bills for printing, binding, and for other expenses.
