DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken. Individual minutes are numbered.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Thomas Blanford; Michael Foster (Secretary); John Wesley Judd; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Thomas Edward Thorpe (Foreign Secretary); the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:

1. Seal of the Royal Society affixed to an address to be presented to Professor Loubet on his visit to England, and sent to the French Ambassador.
2. Letters received from the Admiralty, on an accident to H.M.S. Traveller, with no other vessel available to serve as a platform for upper atmosphere observations with kites for the Committee of the Meteorological Society: £200 allocated from the Reserve Fund of the Government Grant Committee for the hire of a steamer.
3. Correspondence of the Antarctic Relief Expedition read and ordered to be circulated to members of Council.
4. Physics and Chemistry Sectional Committee requested to report on applications to the Mackinnon Studentship in the A Division.
