Commencing with a list of Council members present: William Bateson; William Thomas Blanford; Hugh Longbourne Callendar; Francis Darwin; Harold Bailey Dixon; Michael Foster (Secretary); George Carey Foster; John Wesley Judd; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); George Downing Liveing; Augustus Edward Hough Love; Henry Alexander Miers; Edward Albert Schafer; Thomas Edward Thorpe (Foreign Secretary); Thomas Henry Tizard; Herbert Hall Turner; the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:

1. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved.
2. Death of Dr. C. T. Wilson; Professor Hickson to write the Obituary Notice.
3. List of nominations for Council for the ensuing year, to be communicated to the press.
4. On the eligibility of a citizen of the Unites States of America to be awarded the Davy Medal, adjudicated to include U.S. citizens.
5-9. Adjudication of the award of Royal Society medals: Sir David Gill (Royal Medal); Horace T. Brown (Royal Medal); Marie Curie and Pierre Curie (Davy Medal); J. Wilhelm Hittorf (Hughes Medal).
10. Appointment of auditors for the Treasurer's accounts.
11. Amendments proposed to the report and draft statement from the Secondary Education Committee by Professor Larmor; motion and one amendment withdrawn, the drafts referred back to the committee.
12. Award of the Joule Studentship to Mr. J. A. Harker of the National Physical Laboratory.
13. Report of the International Association of Academies Committee, including the General Assembly to be held at Burlington House, with various sub-committees to manage the event.
14. Proposed loan of the Imperial Standard Yard to the National Physical Laboratory, application withdrawn.
15. Letter from the Director of the National Physical Laboratory on the approaching termination of the Government Grant: a committee formed to consider the future needs of the Laboratory, in preparation for a deputation to Government.
16. Address of welcome to the King of Italy on his arrival in England, full text entered into the minutes.
17. Draft report of Council to the Fellowship approved after amendments.
18. Letter from the Meteorological Council on the proposed reduction of meteorological results from the Antarctic expedition and the lack of available funds: referred to a committee for consideration and a report to Council.
19. Letter from Professor Turner on the cost of the International Astrographic Chart, referred to a committee created for the purpose, to report back to Council.
20. Report of the Soiree Committee on arrangements for the Anniversary Dinner.
21. Invitation to apppoint delegates to the centenary celebrations of the Silesian Society, declined.
22. Letter from Mrs. M. Leith on behalf of Mr. H. Pjetursson, requesting a grant to aid research in the geology of Iceland; declined as not appropriate from the Government Grant.
23. Letter from Mr. R. H. Palgrave presenting a medallion of Sir Francis Palgrave, thanked for his gift.
24. Leave granted to Dr. Hepburn and Dr. Waterson to have the original illustrations for their paper on the cells and nerves of the porpoise, and have a copy of the paper, the original to be retained in the archives.
25. Claims of Professor Clifford Allbutt, Professor Herschel and Colonel Herschel for back copies of numbers of the Philosophical Transactions, granted.
26. Report that forty-five sets of the first issue of the International Catalogue had been sold, relieving the Society's liability for the year.
27. Letter of thanks from Dr. Gadow, for a Donation Fund grant.
28. Bills for printing engraving and other expenses.
