DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken. Individual minutes are numbered.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Dr. Shelford Bidwell; Colonel David Bruce; Francis Darwin (Foreign Secretary); Frank Watson Dyson; Sir Archibald Geikie (Secretary); Francis Gotch; Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Dr. John Edward Marr; Sir William Davidson Niven; John Perry; Dr. William Napier Shaw; William Augustus Tilden; the President, Sir William Huggins, in the chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:

1. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed as correct.
2. Deaths of Professor Albert von Kolliker and Sir J.S. Burdon Sanderson: Sir Michael Foster and Professor Gotch to write Obituary Notices and the President was asked to send condolences to Lady Burdon Sanderson.
3. Letter from the Keeper of the Privy Purse, conveying the King's approval of the award of Royal Medals.
4. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts.
5. Draft letter from the Secretaries of the Royal Society, n.d., to G.H. Murray, Treasury, full text entered into the minutes: on excess expenditure at Eskdalemuir Observatory and Council refusing to have the upkeep of the Observatory vested in the Royal Society.
6. Letter from G.H. Murray, Treasury Chambers, 17 November 1905, to the Secretaries of the Royal Society, Burlington House, full text entered into the minutes: on participation in an International Seismic Association and the expenses involved; with a letter of reply from the Secretary of the Royal Society, 1 December 1905, to the Permanent Administrative Secretary of the Treasury, estimating £250 for expenses during the first year.
7. Letters of thanks from medallists were tabled.
8. Letter from Victor Cavendish, Treasury Chambers, 8 November 1905, to the Secretaries of the Royal Society, Burlington House, full text entered into the minutes: on provision for grant in aid to support the National Physical Laboratory.
9. Treasurer's report on giving consent to the sale of a plot of land at Mablethorpe to Mr. Lee, for £40.
10. Treasurer's report on an interview with Dr. Armstrong, noting a letter from him containing a statement of expenditure from the Government Grant awards with vouchers, admitting an unexpended balance of £100.
11. Mr. Herbert Rix, the former Assistant Secretary, incapacipated by illness, a grant of £50 from the Donation Fund awarded to supplement his pension.
12. Letter from the Treasurers of the Huggins Portrait Fund, donating to the Royal Society a portrait of Sir William Huggins by John Collier, the gift accepted.
