DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken. Individual minutes are numbered.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: Dr. Henry Frederick Baker; Francis Darwin (Foreign Secretary); Wyndham Rowland Dunstan; David Ferrier; Sir Archibald Geikie (Secretary); Alfred Bray Kempe (Treasurer); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Dr. Alexander Scott; Albert Charles Seward; Sylvanus Phillips Thompson; the President, John William Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh, in the chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:

1. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed as correct.
2. Letter from the Keeper of the King's Privy Purse, conveying the King's approval of the award of Royal Medals.
3. Finance Committee approved the Treasurer's accounts.
4. Report of the Auditors of the Treasurer's accounts read.
5. Treasurer reported on discussion of the Fee Reduction Fund, which, on the contributions of Fellows who pay £3 annually, would not make up a deficit by next year: a full report was requested.
6. On the close of accounts, the Treasurer had determined not to draw £260 voted from the Donation Fund in aid of the cost of published papers.
7. Treasurer reported that an anonymous donor had gven £500 to be used for the scientific purposes of the Royal Society: the President requested to convey thanks to the donor.
