DescriptionPrinted minutes containing matters laid before Council, the Royal Society's governing body of Fellows, with records of decisions taken. Individual minutes are numbered.

Commencing with a list of Council members present: John Rose Bradford (Foreign Secretary); Sir William Crookes; Francis Darwin; Sir George Darwin; David Ferrier; Sir Archibald Geikie (Secretary); Joseph Larmor (Secretary); Charles Algernon Parsons; Dr. Alexander Scott; Augustus Desire Waller; William Whitaker; the President, John William Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh, in the chair. The Assistant Secretary [Robert Harrison] attended.

Among matters discussed or noted:

1. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and signed as correct.
2. Deaths of Professor W.E. Ayrton and M. Albert Gaudry: Professor Perry and Sir Archibald Geikie requested to write Obiutuary Notices.
3. Letter from the Keeper of the King's Privy Purse, conveying the King's approval of the award of Royal Medals.
4. Treasurer reported on a meeting of the Finance Committee and the approval of the accounts by auditors.
5. Report of the auditors of the Treasurer's accounts, full text entered into the minutes.
6. Letters of thanks from Medallists were tabled.
7. Dr. Mond had consulted Officers on the acceleration of the Royal Society Catalogue and Index of Scientific Papers: Mond was prepared to contribute a further sum of £2,000, provide that extra assistance was employed to complete the project within two or three years. Letter, Ludwig Mond, 20 Avenue Road, Regent's Park, 17 November 1908, to Alfred Bray Kempe, Treasurer, the Royal Society, full text entered into the minutes: writing to confirm his offer of £2,000, particularly for the volumes on Mechanics, Physics, and Chemistry. The Officers reported on a plan for dividing index slips for Physics and Chemistry, each to be entrusted to an expert reviser for a definite fee: resolved that Ludwig Mond's proposals were acceptable and thanks were given for his additional donation, to be relayed by letter.
8. Sir George Darwin reported for the Committee administering grants for the African Geodetic Arc on further pledges of funds: the sum of £150 to be contributed from the Donation Fund.
