Citation | Benjamin Blake of no 235 Regent Street Captain in the Honorable East India Company's Army in Bengal, Was employed upwards of twelve years by the Government of India in Surveying large Tracts of their Territory - During which period he measured a Base Line, and made the necessary observations from which the altitudes of Five of the highest Peaks of the Himalaya Range of Mountains, including the celebrated one Dhawalayiri, were ascertained; and have [b]een laid before the Public. His Surveys are ordered for publication by the Government. Captain Blake being desirous of becoming a Fellow of the Royal Society, We whose names are underwritten do of our personal Knowledge recommend him, as highly deserving of the honor he solicits [a]nd likely to prove a valuable and useful Member of the Society |
