CitationHe is now Ex-President of the Iron and Steel Institute. His researches on the electrical conductivity and magnetic properties of alloys of iron and steel were made in conjunction with Professor Barrett, FRS. He was presented with the Bessemer Gold Medal in 1904. Originated the modern systematic research on alloys. He is the inventor of Manganese steel. He has written joint papers with Sir James Dewar, FRS, and Dr Fleming, FRS, which were read before the Royal Society in 1904 and 1905.
