| Citation | Distinguished for his investigation into the chemical nature of substances of physiological importance. His work on Sphingomyelin and the Galactosides of the brain is recognized to be definitive. He discovered simultaneously with others, but independently, the effect of irradiation upon cholesterol. With Dudley he has established the chemical nature of spermine and effected its synthesis. |
