TitleHawkins, Herbert Leader: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationDistinguished for his knowledge of Echinoidea. Has published many important papers on the morphology of Echinoids, chiefly Mesozoic, notably his memoir on the Holectypoida ('Phil Trans', 1920). His 'Invertebrate Palaeontology' (Methuen, 1920) is much esteemed and illustrates his broad and philosophical outlook. Would have published more if not engaged in building up a new Department, from two students in 1920 to 61 in 1932, with well-fitted laboratories and museum.
