His classification studies and experimentation with rootstocks first made possible precise study of rootstock influence on scion; this revealed during 23 years work, most striking physiological effects both qualitative and quantitative biochemical and histological investigation into the causes of experimentation with long-lived crops so stimulating plantation research in British Commonwealth. Rootstock findings widely adopted in Europe and spread to Canada and USA. Various other investigations.
