TitleKermack, William Ogilvy: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished as an organic chemist, physical chemist, biochemist and mathematician. His contributions to pure organic chemistry relate to the alkaloid harmine, to indole and quinoline derivatives and to synthetic antimalarials. He has many miscellaneous papers on other aspects of organic chemistry. His biochemical work is largely on carbohydrate metabolism. Almost pure physico-chemical studies relate to colloids and their sedimentation.
The considerable number of mathematical papers have a bearing on statistics particularly in relation to subjects of medical interest.
The greater part of the output of this verstile and giftet scientist has been produced under the handicap of total blindness resulting from a laboratory accident.
