CitationDon Pedro de Maldonado of Quito, Gentleman of the Bedchamber to his Catholic Majesty, and Governor of the Province de las Esmeraldas in Peru, a Gentleman now in London, desiring to offer himself a Candidate for Election into the Royal Society; We do hereby propose him, and upon our own personal acquaintance recommend him, as a Gentleman of great distinction and merit; as a person of Learning and great Curiosity, as a most diligent enquirer into Philosophical and Natural knowledge, and every way well Qualified to be a usefull member & a valuable correspondent of our Society.
