CitationHas been employed eleven years in the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India, and latterly on various physical researches connected with the operations of that Survey.
Is distinguished as a practical Geodesist, and as a Mathematician. Author of a paper on the Treatment of Geodetic figures by the method of least squares in a mode affording great facilities to the computist & also of a paper on local attractions printed in the Roorkee professional papers. - Was selected for the charge of the Expedition for observing the Solar eclipse of 1868 in India which was equipped by the Royal Society; of which operation the results are detailed in the Society's monthly Proceedings, as are also those of various spectroscopic observations of Southern Nebulae, and of the solar prominences on the limb of the uneclipsed Sun made by him with the instruments confided to his care.
