For many years Professor of Geology at the Thomason College of Engineering, Roorkee. Subsequently Deputy Superintendent of the Geological Survey of India, and now Superintendent of that Survey. Distinguished for accuracy and skill as a stratigraphical Geologist, and for his wide acquaintance with the Geology of India. Author of numerous papers of high value on geological subjects, which have appeared in the publications of the Geological Survey of India, the "Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London," the "Geological Magazine", &c, of some of which a list is appended. Distinguished also for his general devotion to Science.
