Author of the following works: - 'On Apogamy and Development of Sporangia upon Fern Prothalli' (Phil Trans, 1898); 'On Alternation of Generations in the Archegoniata' (Brit Assoc Report, 1898); 'Studies in the Development and Morphology of Cycadean Sporangia' (Annals of Bot, 1897, 1900); 'On the Prothallus of 'Lycopodium clavatum'' (ibid, 1899); 'On the Prothalli of 'Ophioglossum pendulum' and 'Helminthostachys Zeylanica'' (ibid, 1902); 'On Apospory in 'Anthoceros laevis'' (ibid, 1901); 'On a Prothallus provisionally referred to Psilotum' (ibid, 1904); 'On the Morphology of Cyathodium' (ibid, 1905); 'On the Sporogonium of Notothylas' (ibid, 1907); 'Preliminary Statement on the Morphology of the Cone of 'Lycopodium cernuun' and its bearing on the Affinities of Spencerites' (Roy Soc Edin, 1908). Author of articles in the Encyclopaedia Britannica. Editor of the last two English editions of Strasburger's Textbook of Botany.
