TitleTansley, Sir Arthur George: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationUniversity Lecturer in Botany, Cambridge. Distinguished for his researches into the Anatomy of Plants, with special reference to Phylogentic Problems, and for the prominent part he has taken in organizing and contributing to Ecological investigations. In 1902, Mr Tansley began the publication of the New Phytologist, which he still edits, and which by his energy has gained general recognition as an important botanical journal. Author of the following, among other papers: - 'Notes on the Conducting Tissue-system of Bryophyta' (Annals of Botany, 1901, with Miss Chick); 'On a New Type of Fern-stele, and its probable Phylogenetic Significance' (ibid, 1902, with Miss Lulham); 'On the Structure of 'Schizoea malaccana'' (ibid, 1903, with Miss Chick); 'The Vascular System of the Rhizome and Leaf-trace of 'Pteris aquilina', L, and P 'incisa' (New Phytologist, 1904, with Miss Lulham); 'A Study of the Vascular System of 'Matonia pectinata'' (Annals of Botany, 1905, with Miss Lulham); 'Lectures on the Evolution of the Filicinean Vascular System' (New Phytologist, vols vi-vii, 'passim', reprinted 1908); 'The Woodlands of England' (ibid, 1910, with C E Moss and W M Rankin).
