CitationLecturer in Invertebrate Zoology and in Medical Entomology and Protozoology, University of Edinburgh. Late Lecturer and Demonstrator in Zooogy, Victoria University of Manchester. Distinguished for his knowledge of the anatomy and histology of the Invertebrata, more especially the Polychaeta and Alcyonaria. Author of, among other papers - 'The Structure of 'Xenia Hicksoni nov sp', with some Observations on 'Heteroxenia Elizabethoe' Koll' (Quart Journ Micros Sci, 1899); 'The Anatomy of 'Scalibregma inflatum'' (ibid, vol xlv, 1901); 'The Anatomy of 'Arenicolp assimilis'' (ibid, 1902); ''Arenicola'' (Memoir xi, publ by the Liverpool Marine Biology Committee, 1904); 'The Giant Nerve Cells and Fibres of 'Halla partenopeia'' (Phil Trans B, 1909); 'The Annelids of the Family Arenicolidae of North and South America' (Proc US Nat Mus, 1911); 'The Arenicolidae of S Africa' (Annals S African Museum, 1911); 'Observations on the Structure and Affinities of 'Branchiomaldane vincenti'' (Proc Roy Soc Edin, 1912); 'A Catalogue of the Chaetopoda in the British Museum.' Pt 1 'The Arenicolidae' (175 pp, 15 pts, being a systematic monograph of this Family), published by order of the Trustees of the British Museum, 1912. He has also published, in conjunction with Dr F W Gamble, 'The Anatomy and Classification of the Arenicolidae' (Quart Journ Micros Sci, 1900); with Dr N Annandale, 'Observations on some Aged Specimens of 'Sagartia troglodytes'' (Proc Roy Soc Edin, 1904); and with Dr T Rettie, 'On a Gregarine - 'Steinina rotundata nov sp', present in the Mid-Gut of Bird-Fleas' (Proc Roy Soc, 1912).
