CitationDistinguished for his contributions to our knowledge of astrophysics, especially for his work 'On Spectroscopic Binary Stars' (Astrophysical Journ, and Publications, Dominion Observatory); 'On the Spectroscopic Determination of the Rotation of the Sun' (ibid); 'On the Absolute Dimensions of Eclipsing Variable Stars'; (papers in Vol 1 of the Publications, Dominion Observatory.) Has contributed greatly to the development of spectrographs for stellar observations, and by his design and use of the 72-inch reflector at Victoria, has, with the collaboration of his staff, secured observations of the radial velocities of 594 stars (Publications, Dominion Observatory). Author of more than 70 papers on astrophysical subjects.
