TitleEllis, Sir Charles Drummond: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionDate stamp on reverse
CitationDistinguished for his researches relating to beta and gamma-rays. By his accurate measurements of beta-ray spectra was the first to show the existence of quantum levels in the nucleus. In collaboration with H W B Skinner made accurate determinations of wave lengths of gamma-rays. Later assisted by W A Wooster was able to identify the disintegration electrons and to prove that their emission precedes that of the gamma-rays; also by means of a very delicate calorimetric method to measure the average energy of the disintegration electrons and to show that they emerge from the nucleus with a continuous velocity distribution.
