CitationDr Trotter has a world-wide reputation as a surgeon of the highest eminence, who, while practising, has made contributions of originality and importance to pure science. He is distinguished for his contributions to the science of Surgery, to the physiology of the peripheral sensory nerves, and for a conspicuous contribution to the study of instinct and its sociological implications. Amongst his more important publications are: - 'The Hunterian Lectures on Malignant Disease of the Mouth and Pharynx' (Lancet, 1913); 'Experimental Studies in the Innervation of the Skin' (Journ of Physiol, 1909; with H M Davies); 'The Peculiarities of Sensibility found in Cutaneous Areas supplied by Degenerating Nerves' (Journ f Pyschol u Neurol, 1913); 'Instinct of the Herd in Peace and War' (1916); and the Horsley Lecture on 'The Insulation of the Nervous System' (1926).
