CitationDistinguished for his research in experimental zoology. He has made important contributions to our knowledge of the properties and function of chlorocruorin. He is the author of important papers dealing with the physiology of fertilisation, lunar periodicity in reproduction and the respiration of invertebrates, etc. He organised and directed the Cambridge Expedition to the Suez Canal, the results of which have been published in Trans Zool Soc, 1926-1929. He has been the editor of 'Biological Reviews' since its inception in 1926.
