CitationDistinguished for his application of dynamical principles and harmonic analysis to Meteorology. Has made a special study of the heat balance in the atmosphere and has shown that radiation, contrary to what had previously been assumed, plays an important part in the transfer of heat through the lower layers. By his own researches and as Editor of the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, Brunt has had a great influence in keeping to the fore the more analytical as distinct from the purely observational side of Meteorology. Brunt has published 22 papers and one book. Four of his papers were published in Royal Society 'Proceedings' and one in 'Transactions'.
