TitleFlorey, Howard Walter, Baron Florey of Adelaide and Marston: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationProfessor of Pathology, The University, Oxford. Florey's work on the lymphatics has extended knowledge of the behaviour of lymphatic trunks and given an explanation of lymphatic capillary dilatation. His investigations on the secretion of mucus are the only sustained efforts so far made to elucidate the mechanism of globlet cell secretion. Many new points have been established. His work on lysozyme has led to the isolation of this enzyme in a pure form and to investigations on its structure and function. His experiments on Brunner's glands are practically the only work on this region. The characteristics and mechanism of their secretion have been established and suggestions made as to their function. The other published papers contain contributions to knowledge.
