CitationChemist. Reader in Chemistry in the University of London. Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry, Imperial College of Science and Technology. Distinguished for his researches over the past twenty years in many branches of organic chemistry. His studies in 3-carbon tautomerism have been of outstanding importance in defining the structural conditions required for this phenomenon and later led to a complete clarification of the chemistry of the glutaconic acids. His contributions to the chemistry of natural compounds are equally notable. Mention may be made of his synthesis of Diel's hydrocarbon and of his investigations in the difficult field of the sapogenins.
