TitleToit, Alexander Logie Du: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationGeologist. Distinguished for his comprehensive geological work in South Africa, with published contributions of an original character on its physiography, tectonics, palaeontology, and petrology followed by comparative studies in other lands, including a remarkable survey of South America, during which he was able to extend materially the observations of local geologists, and to demonstrate the close agreement between the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic sequences of the two continents. His 'Geology of South Africa' (463 pp), now in its second edition, is regarded as the most authoritative work on the area. Recent studies of the theory of continental drift reveal a wide knowledge of geomorphology.
