TitleKay, Herbert Davenport: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his researches in Biochemistry and Dairy Science. He has made a critical study of the phosphatases of various mammalian tissues, especially the kidney and the blood, and his work on the phosphatases of the latter in health and disease has been of clinical value. His observation that phosphatase is completely absent from satisfactorily pasteurised milk forms the basis of a test which has been of great use in maintaining the purity of our milk supplies and has found world-wide application. Many important researches dealing with the lactation and nutrition of cattle have been carried out at the Institute under his leadership.
