TitleSinton, John Alexander: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationBrigadier Sinton, VC, formerly Director of the Malaria Survey of India and now Consultant Malariologist to the War Office is one of the foremost malariologists of the day with a wide international reputation. He is especially distinguished for his researches on the treatment and immunology of malaria but has made other important contributions to knowledge of this disease, notably on the morphology and systematics of the malaria parasites of human and monkey malaria, methods of culture, biochemistry of malaria pigment, technique of diagnostic tests as well as important contributions relating to mosquitoes and sandflies. On retiring from service in India he carried out important researches for the Royal Society at Horton relating more especially to the trial of new synthetic antimalarial compounds and as a Member of the League of Nations Malaria commission he collaborated in drawing up the important Reports published by this body on the Therapeutics and Prophylaxis of Malaria. It is doubtful if any other author during the last thirty years covered by Sinton's work has contributed more largely and importantly to scientific knowledge of malaria or has worked more originally and assiduously to advance such knowledge
