TitleLees, George Martin: certificate of election to the Royal Society
CitationChief geologist to the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. Distinguished for his stratigraphical work in relation to oil-fields. Has a wide grasp of the structural conditions that affect the accumulation of oil in reservoirs, and has had great experience and responsibility for development of oil-fields in Persia and elsewhere. Has instigated and with great persistence led the search which has resulted in the discovery of oil-fields in Britain. Has organised with great ability the use of Geological and Geophysical methods of exploration and has focussed these methods to the unravelling of difficult geological structure. His own stratigraphical studies form an important contribution to geological knowledge. A list of publications is appended.
