TitleParsons, Sir Leonard Gregory: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationOver many years he has carried out and directed a series of studies on the physiology and pathology of diseases of the newborn, in the course of which he has analyses and interpreted many problems in infant pathology. These include marasmus, coeliac disease in its relations to disordered fat metabolism and to rickets, renal rickets, nutritional anaemia and haemolytic disorders of the newborn.
This has all been new work in a largely unexplored field, has been of great value, and its latest item is of major importance in medicine.
Under Parsons' direction the Birmingham school of pediatrics has become a centre of research of international reputation.
