CitationIn charge of radio research in Cavendish Laboratory. Has built up one of finest radio centres in this country, which is exploring the upper atmosphere by transmission and reflection of radio waves and investigating waves from extra-terrestrial sources. List of twenty-three original papers attached, of most of which he was the main author.
Before the war opened up a new line of investigating the lower ionosphere by means of very long waves, while recent paper in Proceedings of the Royal Society on interaction of radio waves and article in Nature on fading indicate present lines of work.
During war responsible for maintenance of air-borne radar equipment while still in early stages of development, and for training R.A.F personnel to use it.
Takes active interest in fundamental problems of training scientists.
