TitlePowell, Alan Richard: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationMr. Powell is a leading analytical chemist and is author (with the late W.R. Schoeller) of a standard book on Analysis. He has built up the research department of Messrs Johnson Matthey & Co. Ltd., and his work has led to the construction of a large plant for the extraction of platinum ores. He has devised new analytical methods and processes for the production of metals in a state of high purity, which have been invaluable for many sciences (e.g. thermocouple wires, catalysts and spectroscopic standards). He is an outstanding candidate on the borderline of Chemistry, Physics and Metallurgy.
