Evolved for these crops successful sand culture techniques, which have found wide use, studied intensively the effects of the main mineral deficiencies, and established a most valuable method of diagnosis of mineral status by visual symptoms. Further developed methods for studying micronutrient element effects and is directing extensive investigations on these. Studied factors affecting magnesium deficiency in orchards and developed methods of control. Initiated soil and pomological surveys that have established important correlations between soil factors and the nutritional status of fruit plants.
