TitleRimington, Claude: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationHe made outstanding contributions to the knowledge of biology of porphyrins in showing that their appearance in porphyrinuria of different origins is related to the disturbances in the synthesis and not in the breakdown of blood pigment and related haem compounds. He made pioneer observations on the nature of chemical linkages, other that the previously accepted peptide type, in proteins concerning phosphate, sulphur and carbohydrate. In his work on cattle poisoning in South Africa he both saw and solved problems of wide biological interest.
