TitleWaters, William Alexander: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his researches into the mechanism of organic reactions, especially those involving free radicals. Present knowledge of the part played by free radicals in solution reactions is largely due to Dr. Waters' work, and this type of mechanism is important in a wide field of organic and physical chemistry, notably in polymerisation and oxidation reactions. Besides a large number of experimental and theoretical papers, he has published two important books, Physical Aspects of Organic Chemistry, and The Chemistry of Free Radicals.
