Distinguished for his contributions to electrical science in the field of transient electrical phenomena, theory of the electric arc plasma, the interaction of electrons in magnetrons and the application of electron clouds to electron optical systems. His brilliant work on optical microscopy by reconstructed wavefronts led him to originate as a theoretical concept a new electron diffraction microscopy which might enable the resolving power of the electron microscope to be considerably increased. Inventor of a system, of speech transmission based on his theory of communication. Author of some forty papers. (list attached)
