CitationMBE, MD, BS (Adel), DTM (Syd). Distinguished for his work on virus diseases and on acidfast bacilli. Work on pathogenesis of mousepox (ectromelia) provided first laboratory model of generalized virus disease and has greatly influenced interpretation of analogous human conditions. Since 1951 he has studied the natural history of myxomatosis using a wide range of field and laboratory techniques. Introduction of myxomatosis to Australia gave unique opportunity to study evolution of virus-host relationship, of which Fenner has taken full advantage. He has done valuable work on Mycobacterium ulcerans and BCG and is the author of standard review of BCG as immunizing agent. List of 60 papers appended,
