TitleTaylor, James Haward: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationHas made notable contributions to knowledge of accessory minerals in igneous complexes and to petrology of contact metamorphism. Particularly outstanding for his work on sedimentary rocks, including comprehensive studies of the field relations and petrology of the important Northampton Sands Ironstone, demonstrating in striking detail sedimentation processes, diagenesis and post-consolidation change and providing a valuable economic assessment of ore-types. Played a large part in elucidation of complex and hitherto little-understood superficial structures in Mesozoic rocks. Recently made a major contribution to metalliferous geology with his study of the lead-zinc-vanadium deposits of Broken Hill [Kabwe], Rhodesia [Zambia]. Chairman, Clay Minerals Group.
