TitleBlaschko, Hermann Karl Felix: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationDistinguished for his work on the function of the enzyme monosamine oxidase and its distribution in the zoological kingdom; for example he showed long ago that sympothomimetic amines like ephedrine, which are characterised by their long lasting action owe this to their immunity from attack by monoamine oxidase. Distinguished also for his study of inhibitors of the enzyme histaminase for his contributions to our knowledge of mammalian decarboxylases and of the substances they form, and more recently for his work on the granules which hold adrenaline, noradrenaline and histamine. Himself a biochemist working in a field closely related to pharmacology he has illuminated biochemistry for the pharmacologists, and pharmacology for the biochemists.
