TitleSwann, Michael Meredith: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCertificate of Election
CitationDistinguished for his researches on cell division and fertilisation. He has used very refined polarisation methods to study the changes in molecular organisation of the spindle and associated structures, and has made important observations on the energy relations during mitosis. With Mitchison he has produced much evidence to support a new theory of cell division, and with Rothschild has made important experiments on membrane behaviour at fertilisation. He has shown great ingenuity and skill in improving technical methods and devising new ones.
