TitleBooth, Eric Stuart: certificate of election to the Royal Society
DescriptionCitation typed
CitationDistinguished for his achievements in Power Plant Engineering. Booth is responsible for the design and construction of all the conventional and nuclear power plants and the high voltage transmission system of the Central Electricity Generating Board whose capital expenditure on these is now about œ400,000,000 a year - thus he controls the largest unified construction programme in the United Kingdom and probably in the world. He has advanced the technology of electricity supply by the development in this country of 350MW and 500MW tandem compound generating units with single boilers at sub-critical pressures and of 375MW supercritical units. In the field of electrical transmission he is responsible for the 400kV supergrid system now being constructed. A list of his papers is attached but, as with most practising engineers, his most important publications are in the 'ironmongery' for which he is responsible.
